Dear Parents and Carers,

We are fast approaching the end of term and we have a lot of excited children ready for the festive break! Thank you to everyone who has supported our Christmas events this year. It is lovely to get the whole community together at this time of year and celebrate with the children.

Please see my messages below:

New After-School Club

We are very excited to be opening our own After-School Club in January. The club is called ‘Owls’ Nest’ and the facilities are all brand new and of a high quality – just what our children deserve!

We are delighted to have a highly experienced Manager of the provision, Dawn Williams, who is keen to get the club up and running in the New Year with her team.

Owls’ Nest will be a home from home setting where the children can relax, have a hot meal and play or chill out in a friendly, caring atmosphere.

If you would like your child to attend the club then please complete an application form which can be collected from the school office or download the document from the website via the ‘parents’ tab then click ‘wrap around care’.

PTFA

Enormous thanks to our PTFA mums and dads who have almost moved in this half term! They make a real difference to the funding of extra resources and on the experiences of all pupils. Well done to classes 3H, 6JB and 1W and RHW for buying the most raffle tickets and winning the Golden Time Hamper for their class!

Process for late collection – Late Club

If parents are not in the playground at the end of the school day then the teacher will take the remaining children to Late Club. Parents will need to collect their children from the front of Owls by 3:40 and a fee of £10 per family per week will apply. This club was established to support families with children in more than one school but can be used by any parents who are challenged to arrive on time at the end of the school day.

At 3:40 any children who are still awaiting collection will be taken to Owls’ Nest and a fee of £10 per pupil per night will apply.

Uniform

At Broadheath Primary School we take a lot of pride in our school uniform. Please ensure that children are wearing school shoes during the day and have trainers or pumps for PE. Children in KS2 should wear a tie – these are available to purchase in the school office.

Calendar Dates

The calendar for the academic year 2020-2021 is now on the school website – please check this before booking any holidays as school does not authorise holidays during term time.

A list of Clubs and Activities for the term ahead along with Spring Term diary dates will be sent home tomorrow. Updates are always on the school website should you need them.

MyEvolve Hub

I would like to thank everyone for this patience with the Evolve system. We recognise the frustration and challenges that parents are facing on a daily basis – it really is a challenge all round! The system is under close scrutiny and I will keep you informed of any updates.

Punctuality and attendance

Please remember that the school gates close at 9am. After this time children will need to be signed into school by an adult in the late book. If your child is absent please let the school office know before 9am. You can leave a message on the answer phone to report sickness by pressing line one.

Pupil Achievements

A kind heart – very well done to Lola-Rose in Y3 for raising £170 by baking and selling Christmas cupcakes to family and friends. She has used this money to buy presents for needy children and donated them to The Toy Appeal. This was all her own idea and her family and all of us at school are very proud of her.

Rayyan from Y6 achieved the Kumon 3rd place award for the amount of work he has completed in his studies this year. Well done Rayyan!

Watch out for Ava B and Lila in Y6 over Christmas. You may see them as they perform at Planet Ice in their production of Sleeping Beauty on Ice. Way to go girls!!!

Congratulations to Zara and Aliana Bennett who have reached the National Team Finals in Ballroom and Latin competitions at Blackpool.

We welcome Miss Preston as our new Nursery teacher and Miss Goodman who will also be supporting as the new Nursery Teaching Assistant. Welcome back from maternity leave to Mrs Ryder who will be working with Mrs Jones in the New Year in Y5.

Final message

Very well done to all of our wonderful children who have had an amazing term and produced some fabulous performances for us all to enjoy and put us in the festive mood. Well done to the choir and all of the children who have appeared on Blue Peter this term! Y5 and Y6 pupils will be singing carols in the main playground tomorrow from 3:10pm (or in the main hall if raining). All parents are most welcome to come along and join in!

I wish you and your family a happy and peaceful Christmas break. We return to school on Monday 6th January.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Kirsten Lyde
