Dear Parents and Carers

The months are now quickly rolling by as we approach our final gallop towards the end of the academic year. We have, once again, packed in an enormous amount to this short half term and we thank you for your continued support. Please see below a few messages and information which I thought may be of interest to you.

New build and Open Morning

Our Reception and Year 1 classes have settled brilliantly into their new classrooms and the teaching staff have worked incredibly hard with the children on the transition into the new space.

We will be holding a whole school open morning on Monday 25th June 2018 (from 9.15am) for parents/carers and prospective parents to have an opportunity to see the wonderful work that goes on here at Broadheath Primary.

Sports day

This year sports day will be on Wednesday 27th June.  Infant parents are invited to watch at 9.15am and KS2 parents are welcome from 1.15pm.

Parking

Please can I remind all parents and carers to park considerately when dropping off and collecting from school.  Now that the new build is complete we should see a reduction in contractors parking locally, although construction work still continues on the McGoff site next to school.  Please do not park across our neighbour’s driveways or in places which would make it unsafe for pedestrians to walk.

Our walking bus is available each day from Waitrose and leaves at 8.45am led by our TAs.  Again, please show consideration if you do park at Waitrose by not parking in the disabled bays.

Attendance

Whole school attendance is slowly creeping up however the Governors of the school and I are still very concerned that a number of parents are taking their children out of school for holidays during term time. We made the decision that we will not be authorising time off unless there are extreme circumstances. As a result of this, fines may be levied by the local authority in the future.

Attendance letters have been sent home to parents where their child’s attendance is considerably below our school target of 95%.  If your child’s attendance continues to cause concern then we will contact or Education Welfare Officer (EWO) who may make a home visit to discuss the matter further.

School gates

Just a reminder that access to the main playground for pupils in Y2 – Y6 remains via the field gate.  The Reception/Y1 gate is for access to the new build classrooms and for those families who may need to drop off/collect from both the new build and the main playground.  We have noticed an increase in the amount of families using this gate when they don’t need to leading to this pathway becoming congested.

Parent questionnaire

Many thanks to all those parents who recently completed our annual parent questionnaire. There were lots of very positive comments and it was lovely to hear all of them.  We did note that there were a few responses about school communication and messages not always getting to you in plenty of time.  School uses Parent Pay/email as our main tool for whole school communication.  If you are not already signed up, please do so in order to receive up to date information about what is going on in school including any upcoming trips etc.  Class teachers use dojo as an additional way of communicating with parents in a variety of ways.

School uniform

The last date for ordering school uniform for collection before the summer holidays is 15th June 2018.  Any orders after this date can be collected from school after 1st September 2018 or it can be delivered to your home (at an additional cost).

Pupil safety & cycling

It is great to see so many of our children cycling to school, however it has been noticed that many are not wearing helmets and are at risk of serious injury if they have an accident.  Please can you make sure that your child wears a helmet if riding to school.

Just a reminder that cycling on school grounds is not allowed and under no circumstances should pupils cycle through the car park at the front of school.

PTFA

Many thanks to our wonderful PTFA members for all their hard work in organising our Hawaiian themed disco last night.  The children had a great time and thank you to all those families who supported the event.

Suntan lotion and hats!

During this summer term, please remember to put suntan lotion on your children before they come to school and send them into school with a hat and bottle of water. Water bottles can be refreshed throughout the day.

Sports day

Sports day for the whole of school is on Wednesday 27th June.

09:15:00          11:45:00          KS1:  Reception to Y2 Sports Day

13:15:00          15:15:00          KS2: Y2 – Y6 Sports Day

Happy holidays! – remember we are back to school on Monday 11th June.
